"I teach international relations theory and general introductions to the subject of International Relations. The world is becoming increasingly global and what happens on one side of the world can have major impacts elsewhere, or as someone once put it, when ‘America sneezes everyone gets a cold’. It’s important to understand how this global and interconnected world works if we are to grasp the opportunities open to us all."
Master of Law and International Development
“The Master of Law and International Development is a new specialist Master’s degree that recognises the importance of law in international development while building on Sydney Law School’s reputation as Australia’s leading School in international, global and transnational law. The degree will prepare you for work in international development, including in specialist law and justice areas. It consists of foundation courses giving an overview of the role of law in international development, together with units from six thematic clusters: Development and Rights, Environment Climate Change and Sustainability in Development, Global Health Law and Development, Legal Pluralism, Rule of Law and Governance, and Trade and Development. In addition, there will be opportunities to participate in the Law School’s Off-Shore courses in Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia and China.”
Master of International Business
"I wanted to build my strengths around strategic thinking and macro-level decision-making skills and found that the Master of International Business program supported this goal.
B.Ec(Hons), first class, University medal, Harvard PhD in Economics
"The economics program at the University of Sydney proved to be a terrific launching pad for my early forays into Australian public policy, and then for my postgraduate study at Harvard. I now teach economics in the US, and draw upon many of the lessons I learned as an undergrad at Sydney. I was given great advice about future careers from my Sydney mentors, and went off first to the Reserve Bank of Australia, then to Harvard for Graduate School. Today, I get to play a part in economic policy debates in Australia, the US and around the world. It’s very much the career I dreamt of when I started my studies.”
Juris Doctor (JD)
“As a postgraduate program with an international focus, the Sydney JD attracts a diverse student body drawn from a range of geographical, personal and professional backgrounds. Throughout my degree I have felt this has provided a unique environment for the study of law in a globalised world. Lead by academics and professionals who demonstrate true passion and expertise in their fields, the broad student body ensures lively discussions and the ability to view and understand the law from a range of perspectives. With world-class facilities, inspiring faculty and like-minded students, I believe the Sydney JD provides the ideal environment to gain the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to succeed in an increasingly internationalised legal profession.”
Master of Criminology
“After I completed the MCrim I started practice as a forensic psychologist and have been doing it fulltime for 17 years, so far. I have assisted clients that would otherwise have had to wait much longer or simply progressed through the justice system without psychological assessment/intervention."
Master of US Studies
“As part of my Master of US Studies, I put study into practice working as an intern on Capitol Hill. From a US congressional briefing about foreign journalists in Russia, to the plight of Roma people, I experienced first-hand the inner workings of US politics. As a producer with ABC Radio’s International Desk, my postgraduate study gave me a career in journalism with an international edge.”
